York Pennsylvania
BLUE MOON
CAFE
Cap'n
Crunch French Toast
We always fly
in BWI and usually stop at the Maryland Line Inn at the Pa. border for lunch on
our drive to York Pa. This year we decided to go directly to the Blue Moon Cafe
in Fells point to try the Cap'n Crunch French Toast that we saw on Last year I featured LeadBetters in Fells Point. I wanted to visit Curtis the bartender this year, but they didn't open until 3 PM and I couldn't wait around that long. Click here to see last years York Page! Now on with
the rest of my 2008 York Pennsylvania visit..... My visit with the retirees of UAW Local 786
When I first put this page together I forgot to mention my visit at the retiree meeting of United Auto Workers Local 786, Probably because I forgot to take some photo's too. I was a member of UAW Local 786 for 30 years while I worked for Caterpillar Inc. in York Pa. I held many positions and served on many of the committee's in the Local during that 30 years, from Recreation Committee, Education Committee, Safety Committee, Vice President and President of the Local. Also during that time I was an officer in the Pennsylvania South Central CAP Council (The Political Branch of the UAW). I traveled to Washington D.C. every year for a week to attend the UAW Political Conference where we met with our Representatives and discussed the issues. I learned a lot during those 30 years and got a real understanding how our political system works. I had the opportunity to meet many politicians from both sides of the aisle. I can never thank the UAW enough for the education that I received from them during those 30 years. I became keenly aware of the Reagan Presidential years as Caterpillar threatened to close our plant and then eventually did. I'll never forget the 18 months on strike when I was President of the Local, as the CEO of Caterpillar refused to bargain in good faith and was determined to break the UAW Union. I have the greatest respect for the UAW members who stood their ground across the nation against a ruthless power hungry CEO. Over the years I have watched as other Companies in the United States went down the same path as Caterpillar in their quest for huge profits and outrageous CEO pay and bonuses. So I have a very good understanding about what has been happening in this country since the Ronald Reagan years. I truly hope that we can change direction in this country and some how restore all that has been lost . It was great to see all the UAW members again and I really enjoyed attending the retiree meeting with my girlfriend Vinnie. I have a lot of fond memories of York, Pa.
York High class of 63.... 45th Class reunion
That would be me in the top row on the right
Take a good look... you don't see the suit much anymore since I retired It was nice to attend the class reunion. The last one I attended was the 25th. I got to see a lot of people and I have to say that everyone really changed in their looks, except me ! What a bunch of old people....
On a sad note.... I did see that a lot of class mates have died and that sure makes you think about living everyday to the fullest... makes you realize that life is short ! Of course
..York is where they build most of the Harley motorcycles and you can see that
the town is proud of that. Everywhere you go you see motorcycle stuff. This is
the local McDonald's in the photos below... the motorcycle display is from the
movie Easy Rider!
He was also nice enough to give me a York Bike Week T-Shirt from this years bike week...
It's always nice to visit family and Vinnie's Family is also close to York, so we can all get together. Some of us went to The Olive Garden for lunch one day.
Mike & Dan.... Mike on the left is one of my 3 son's
Vinnie and her two sisters, Beth & Amy
We were lucky enough to make this trip at the right time of the year. We usually go to York in the summer, but this trip was in October, because of the class reunion. It just happened to be the time when my favorite craft show "Sugarloaf" was in Timonium Maryland, so a bunch of us went there one day. Click here for the Sugarloaf Craft Shows web site
The whole trip was very busy.... Something going on everyday. Got to the Harley Plant, the Harley Dealers, Texas hot winers in Hanover Pa. and Taco's at the Pub on the Trail. Got to visit Vinnies mother and Father (Forgot to take photos.. Bummer) and got to see most of my buddies.
Looking forward to my next visit... Next Summer....
